Are We Approaching The Launch?

The truth lies within the code

Introduction

The first public-facing HEAT build appeared as version 0.0.323, released on 13 February 2026, with a small follow-up update on 19 February 2026. Interestingly, that second update appears to have removed the visible version number from the API while leaving everything else intact. On top of that, the current HEAT install includes a HEAT.txt file (present since 13 February) which reads:

HEAT.txt file

“Get ready to join the battle in World of Tanks: HEAT, a free-to-play tactical shooter where hero-enhanced tanks clash in explosive, fast-paced combat. You've successfully added HEAT on Wargaming Game Center. The game will be downloaded and installed once it launches. Stay tuned for updates!” -HEAT.txt

The wording strongly suggests we’re nearing an actual release window, not another alpha or beta playtest.

A Look Back at Major Game Versions

Here’s a breakdown of the major builds and test phases so far:

  • Friends & Family Closed - 0.0.10
  • Friends & Family #1 - 0.0.14
  • Friends & Family #2 - 0.0.25
  • Friends & Family #3 - N/A
  • Open Alpha Playtest #1 - 0.0.56
  • Open Alpha Playtest #2 - 0.0.192
  • World of Tanks: HEAT - 0.0.323

And the corresponding playtest windows:

  • Friends & Family Closed (Wargaming Employees only): 25 - 29 May 2023
  • Friends & Family #1: 22 - 25 June 2023
  • Friends & Family #2: 21 - 24 September 2023
  • Friends & Family #3: 1 - 2 December 2023
  • Open Alpha Playtest #1: 18 January - 5 February 2024
  • Open Alpha Playtest #2: 6 February - 3 March 2025
  • World of Tanks: HEAT: No public playtest yet

The progression from 0.0.10 to 0.0.323 shows significant backend development over time, particularly between Open Alpha Playtest 2 (0.0.192) and the current new World of Tanks: HEAT build.

LSP Announcement and Goals

On the 8th Of July 2024, a post was made in the official World of Tanks: HEAT (Formerly Project CW) discord announcing the introduction of the LSP (Lodestar Program) by WG. The Lodestar Program (LSP) was introduced as an initiative designed to involve the community directly in shaping the future of Project CW (now WoT: HEAT). The program aimed to test gameplay changes, core system expansions, and significant design overhauls before wider deployment.

The stated goals of the Lodestar Program were listed as follows:

  • Early Testing of Major Updates - Validate large-scale gameplay changes before public rollout.
  • High-Quality Feedback - Gather structured, actionable insights from experienced players.
  • Iterative Improvement - Refine new systems to ensure balance, stability, and long-term viability.

Publicly no further information of these tests has been made outside of NDA or the changes that take place from test to test, and it is unclear how many have been run. However, it is likely significant given the time between announcement and the current date of 2026 (at time of writing) we can assume LSP is still ongoing.

About 6 months later from the original announcement. A followup post was made on the 29/01/2025 shortly before the launch of Alpha 2 which confirmed the continued existence of closed LSP testing with the following statement:

Employee Message

“Since our last playtest, the dev team and Lodestar Program participants have reviewed your feedback, made improvements, and added new combat mechanics, fresh abilities, new vehicles, agents, game modes, maps, and more. The loadout and vehicle module system has been reworked to offer more flexible playstyles. Plus, we’ve prepared a few surprises in progression and content unlocks”.

At the end of Open Alpha Playtest #2, a QR code was provided for players to scan to register their interest in LSP. Although no public date was given for the continuation of the program. However, Since Alpha 2 and moving into late 2025, various posts have been made across official social media platforms confirming the ongoing existence of LSP. Although it is not known how often, or what criteria Wargaming recruit on.

These posts are dated:

Signs of an Approaching Launch

Several indicators suggest we may be closing in on release from activity from official channels, discords, conversations with various developers and CM’s amongst other factors.

Install Messaging

The HEAT.txt file explicitly states that the game will download “once it launches.” This language differs from prior alpha or test builds and implies a public launch pipeline is now in place via the Wargaming Game Center.

Social Media Activity Spike

Since 6 January 2026, official social media accounts across YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram have seen a noticeable increase in posting frequency. Both short-form and long-form content have been appearing almost daily. Sustained daily marketing activity often aligns with pre-launch ramp-up phases.

Server Preparations

On 25 February 2026, official Wargaming employees publicly mentioned they were “working on tidying up the server.” While vague, server preparation typically occurs shortly before major deployment milestones, such as open beta or full release. Evidence was also seen by the Bug Hunters team of Wargaming employees testing role assignments and onboarding within the official discord.

Employee Message

“On a more serious note now. We're working on tidying up the server, so let's use off-topic for our silly, but very important, syncs, and leave space here for future, more game-related topics. And give new people a safe space to ask questions and discuss” -Wargaming Employee 25 February 2026 10:33 AM UTC

Release Date Prediction

A previous prediction from the HEAT Labs Team for the 15th of February 2026 proved incorrect. However, activity since suggests the date may not have been too far out. As a result we look at several new factors, information obtained by devs or players (publicly) as well as actions taken by Wargaming staff. A revised release prediction could fall in Mid to Late March 2026, With particular attention around the 26th of March.

Based on:

  • The 0.0.323 build deployment
  • Removal of visible version numbering
  • Launch-ready messaging in HEAT.txt
  • Increased marketing cadence since early January
  • Public server preparation comments

Final Thoughts

With build 0.0.323 deployed to Wargaming Game Center, marketing momentum increasing, and server preparation underway, World of Tanks: HEAT appears closer than ever to launch. While nothing has been officially confirmed, the signs are pointing toward a near-term release rather than another limited playtest.
