Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths and weaknesses based on community feedback

Strengths

Hidden Passive

One strength of the XM1-90 is its hidden passive: Rising Tempo. The more shots that land and cause damage, the faster the interclip reload becomes.

Decent Protection

Despite being an attacker the XM1-90 features a decent amount of frontal armour as well as a strong turret bustle. This helps keep the XM1-90 alive and allows it to bully others of its class 1 on 1.

Sustained Damage

The XM1-90’s gun is able to switch to a secondary drum while reloading the main drum. Proper use of this ability will allow you to keep sustained damage on an enenmy.

Counter Flanker

Excelling at countering flank, any enemies hoping to get around undetected may find their routes contested by an XM1-90.

Excellent utility

The XM1-90’s abilities allow for a wide selection of builds. from an off-tank to a heavy attacker with CC, there's little this tank cant do.

Weaknesses

Poor Low Speed Acceleration

The XM1-90’s gearing means the tank is sluggish to get off the mark. Early stages of this tank’s acceleration suffer as a result and speed takes a while to build.

Low Alpha Damage

Despite the gun generally being favourable. It is much more focused on sustained damage rather than burst. XM1-90 often has to stay exposed for longer to secure a kill.

Critical Hit Reliant Tank

The gun relies on scoring critical hits in order to put out high damage numbers. Players must be careful to aim their shots. stray rounds may be the difference between getting back out of an engagement.

High Damage Falloff

The XM1-90 has high damage falloff. As a result it is only effective in very close quarters. Players of XM1-90 may find this playstyle challening.

Vulnerable Weakspots

This vehicle features several critical weak spots on all sides. Particularly noticeable is the tanks rotary ammo rack which when hit can cause crippling damage to XM1-90 if not protected.

I prefer to play this as an 'off-tank' personally. Operating around my defenders, helping keep their flanks clear before striking out on opportunistic counter flanking when able.

Eye of Sauron

One of the ways I prefer to the XM1-90 is by putting my reacon beacons in hard to reach areas. You can't hide from the "Eye of Sauron".

Its always best to open up with two high explosives no matter your opponents and wait to see if they pop repair to fix their tracks.

Tank Summary

The XM1-90 is an ‘Attacker’ with World of Tanks: HEAT. Although unlike its companions it is significantly heavier than most in its class. This is derived from its unusually good armour. Sharing a common hull lineage with the M1E1 and XM1V. As a result the XM1-90 crosses slightly into more of a light defender in terms of roles.

The XM1-90 is most effectively utilized as a counter-attacker. Its low acceleration limits opportunistic flanking, but doesn't rule it out completley. Its toolkit excels at pinning down enemy tanks and maintaining crucial flank saftey. XM1-90 players when pushed can go 'all in' and trade sustained combat power for a temporary and dramatic increase in instant damage output.

XM1-90 commanders must, however, maintain situational awareness. Despite its armour, the tank can be easily overwhelmed if caught out of position, as even heavier defenders can match its initial, sluggish acceleration. Furthermore, initiating an engagement with an empty clip can be a fatal mistake, so always ensure you're reloaded.
